Ripples, I Think

I skipped a stone
Across the lake
I did not see
The path it take
Or maybe it's the
Path it took
Well, either way
I didn't look.

Chocolate Pie

If you gave me chocolate pie
I think I‘d be a happy guy
But if you gave me Brussel sprout
I think my taste buds all would pout
And if you gave me stir fried rice
I think, inside, I’d feel real nice
But if you gave me rutabaga
I think I’d die from lack of flavah
So if you give me tasty food
You'll put me in a lovely mood
But if it’s bad, I must admit
There’s no way I will eat that stuff.

Ode to a Mollusk

My mollusk friend who dwells in shell
Amazed I am at thee
Adrift in home, your chamber smell
Is sweet with scent of sea

The time and tides do softly flow
And keep your life sedate
To me, I think your best tableau
Is steamed and on my plate.

Spring Bounty

I saw a flower wave at me
Near sidewalk in the grass
I marveled at its symmetry
Its soft and fragile mass
How awed I was by what took place
That brought it to my view
The seed that flew through time and space
Then nourished by the dew
How birds were blind to morsel meal
Twas fortune smiling down
Allowed a root to dig with zeal
In soil of orange and brown
And sun did serve a loving glow
That kept this flower blessed
Though storms had knocked it to and fro
It flowered nonetheless
So now this mir'cle towers tall
Above green grass anew
I hear the sound of Roundup call
Poor dandelion, adieu.

If The World Was A Cloud

If the world was a cloud
Would you say things real loud
In a universe sky
We'd float there on high
In white puffs of pure
We'd live and endure
When rain would fall down
We'd all hear the sound
We wouldn't get wet
Unless we were met
By a cloud that was higher
Then we'd not be drier.

Free Verse

(to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird")

I can’t rhyme words at all, now
Don’t have gene inside of me
When I write my ramblings on pad
Ain’t  got too many rhymin’s inside of head

So don’t you judge me weird guy
Rhymes just really aren’t my scene
Cos’ I write free kinda verse, now
And this verse I cannot change
And this rhyme I cannot do
And this song I cannot fix
Lord knows
I can’t rhyme…

I’m not lazy, I’ve got a strange mind
Keeps this rhyming thing at bay
So please be nice, don’t be ungood
Why word woes, I can’t know

So if you say “Here’s a neat word.”
I just couldn’t find the rhyme
Cos’ I write free kinda verse, man
And to rhyme, I am adverse
And those words I cannot pen
And that phrase I cannot jot
Lord knows
I can’t rhyme

Lord, I can’t rhyme
So I’ll write, free verse, yeah…

Cookies for Breakfast

"I want cookies for breakfast
And coffee in cup,"
I said to my body
As body woke up.

I'll skip past the sausage
Though tasty indeed
The links are so sav'ry
When sav'ry I need

No eggs from the skillet
All smothered with cheese
Or toast with some honey
From sweet little bees

There's bagels I've buttered
And some I like plain
I get from grocer
He knows me by name

I do like some pancakes
From griddle, all hot
They make me so sleepy
When I eat a lot

I want something crispy
Some sweetness and crunch
And if I'm still hungry
I'll grab more to munch

My week has been long one
Need Keebler's from elves
Or Pepp'ridge Farm goodies
I've seen on my shelves.

I'm older and hungry
I'm due for a perk
Let's skip past the first course
And straight to dessert.

So if you'll excuse me
I'm spying a box
I think it is calling
By God, they do talk

It tells me, "Dear Warren
There's joy here inside.
Just skip old traditions
And don't be denied."

I've mug with my coffee
And napkin for crumbs
This morning, it's cookies
This afternoon, Tums.

The Real Princes

.

When real princes wear shorts
And their hair is swept back
Like the waves riding oceans
They swirl and bulge fat
Deep footsteps find filling
With worlds of their own
Small things in small things
Floating freely and sigh
Till a sea’s heavy rolling
Gather all to her tide
And a laugh can be seen
Hear the squeal of child
The real princes wear shorts
The real princes wear smiles.
