Dirty Dishes

(to Don Henley's Dirty Laundry)

I see you dirty up the plates you use
You have a sandwich, crackers and some stew
Doesn’t matter what you chews
You leave dirty dishes

Well, you could have used detergent and a sponge, my dear
All the bits are baked on. Is it water you fear?
Come explore a new frontier
Clean your dirty dishes

Clean ‘em when you sup
Wash ‘em when they’re brown
Clean ‘em when you sup
Wash ‘em when they’re brown
Clean ‘em when you sup
Wash ‘em when they’re brown
Clean ‘em when you sup
Cleaner than you found

We got the coffee-coated cracked cup, and the spattered knife
See the little tendrils growing up to the light
Good heavens, you’ve created life
In those dirty dishes

So what’s the justification? Do your hands get wet?
You know the gloves in the cupboard stop the moisture threat
We’re not here to clean your mess
Clean your dirty dishes

Just a little scrubbing, a dash of Dawn.
This is not a lab for making green things that spawn
Clean that crap until it’s gone
Do your dirty dishes

Hygiene isn’t tough
Scrub it all around
Hygiene isn’t tough
Scrub it all around
Hygiene isn’t tough
Scrub it all around
If you spill a bit
Wear a plastic gown

Dirty little dishes, dirty little flies
Was that a little pizza with a slice of apple pie?
The smell alone, it burns my eyes
From your dirty dishes.

You can spare us all the lingo your excuses bring
When it’s said and done your dishes pile in the sink
Caked on food and drink make stink
Do your dirty dishes.
