In a joint venture, Fox and NBC are creating a new cable channel called The Dysfunctional Channel. Experts believe the combination of networks will leverage itself into a blockbuster ‘Must-See-Poor-Me-TV.’
“We’re pleased,” announced Rupie Moribund, chief programming head of Fox Networks. “We’ve always believed the most compelling TV is the TV that demeans.”
“And we feel it’s a great way to make money,” said Bertie Mittigs, programming consultant to NBC. “People can watch these shows and feel better about their situation.”
The bulk of programming will consist of ‘reality’ shows. Reality shows are inexpensive to produce and can generate revenue quickly. According to Nelson Ratings, many reality shows grab large audiences away from the traditional dramatic programs and sitcoms.
In recent years, channels like Braino, Dishonory, and DimTV are producing far more reality shows than other types of programming.
According to sources inside the new channel, program offerings will include new takes on reality TV including one program called “Lights Out.” Producers of the program say no cameras will be used in the production of the show because “cameras change the way people act.”
“And cameras cost money,” said one anonymous producer. The entire program will consist of black video and occasional noises.
Another offering will be a low cost cooking show called “Bromide” which features chefs who cook but do not talk.
